Ideal Temperature and Humidity for Exterior Painting

As the majority of people know, painting in the colder months is a big no-no. Once the temperature goes too down, we have to put off our outdoor painting projects till the next summer. So now, as we admire the warm weather of summer, an issue is raised. Can it get too hot for outdoor painting also? Or we can say, what is the suitable temperature to paint outside?

    Timing is Everything

Perfect timing is what our experts recommend for a reasonable time to go for an exterior painting job.

    • A popular rule of thumb is that oil-based paint can be best when the temperature is at the level of 40°- 90° F, and latex paint is most appropriately advisable between 50°- 85° F. Although, latex paints are competent for most exteriors.
    • Ideally, I prefer a day to paint your outside with temperatures ranging from 60° to around 85°F with slight to no wind. Too windy weather can make the paint dry too soon.
    • 40% to 70% humidity is the ideal range to ensure that the paint dries properly.
    • If the temperatures are very low or very high, your paint may not blend correctly, which can direct to unwelcome peeling and cracking. Latex paint can also be hard to apply at high temperatures because most of the time, the heat will make it dry too soon.
    • In the humid and hot summer months, painters should start painting on the shaded area of a house and working around the home to prevent the sun’s beam. This is a bonus because it also protects painters from the blazing heat!

The summer months are undoubtedly ideal when going for home renovations. Yet, procrastination can often set in, and the summer season will end before renovators have even come inside a store. If that’s the circumstance, be sure to complete all outside painting before the cold sets in, and it’s too late.

    Concerns For Cool Weather

You can obtain a full line of reward 100% acrylic latex paints and primers that best created temperatures as low as 35°F. But keep in mind that for the paint to dry and cure appropriately the surface and air temperatures should not go below 35° for 36 hours after applying it. Yet, to be on the safe side and prevent any unwanted speed bumps, experts suggest painting in no less than 50°F weather. They also recommend achieving maximum results and start painting from 10 a.m-3 p.m.

Remember that low temperatures mean slow drying and long curing duration, which means you have to be patient. Give sufficient time between coats, normally 24-hours. That tip is mainly critical when you’re painting with darker colors, which have extra colorant or apply latex paint on an alkyd primer.

    The Effects of Dew Point

Dew point is when the air becomes chilling to change the moisture existing in the atmosphere from vapor to liquid. This liquid will be visible on grounds in the form of a condensation water drop. An elevated dew point means there will be a higher quantity of moisture present in the air. While exterior or interior painting your house is essential to the substrate temperature, it is a minimum of 3 degrees Celsius above the dew point. This is to assure no condensation will form on the ground and risk the paint coating during application.

Moisture can damage both solvent and water-based paints. Solvent-based paints can be liable to blistering and blooming. This is because of a reaction between the water and solvents existing in color. With water-based paints, this water will work as paint thinner. This can result in the paint washing off the surface.

    Remember The Rain

Whatever the temperature is, remember that rain can (and will) have issues with outside paint. If rain is predicted in the next 4-8 hours, it’s advisable to take a break (the same goes with interior painters’ services). It is more vital that the area is dry before you start the paint than after to ensure that you will get a sound binding. Even then, you still need 4-8 hours of dry weather after you have done painting.

    Conclusion

The most suitable time for painting would probably be in the spring or fall based on the discussed findings. According to The Heaven World You’ll be painting with cooler temperatures and won’t have to be upset about hotter temperatures if your home is directly under the sun.

Now that you are very clear about the timing of the painting. You should quickly hire some exterior painting service to make your house beautiful.
