If you have just found out you are pregnant, congrats! Pregnancy is among the most exciting moments in a woman’s life. However, Pregnancy Garden City can also take a toll on your physical and emotional well-being. You must care for yourself to keep you and your unborn baby healthy.

Here are tips to take care during pregnancy:

    Get early prenatal care

Good prenatal care is crucial for you and your unborn child, whether you are planning to have a baby or have just learned of your pregnancy. The first prenatal appointment is the best time for your doctor to confirm your pregnancy and check for any health issues. Your doctor will conduct urine and blood tests to check for any conditions that may affect your pregnancy.

    Eat a healthy diet

Eating a balanced diet is important to stay healthy if you are pregnant. Ensure your diet consists of fruits, legumes, vegetables, and lean meat. Eat fish thrice weekly for the growth and development of your baby’s brain. Avoid deli meats, as they may contain microorganisms that may harm your unborn child. In addition, drink Six to ten glasses of water every day. Instead of soda, drink fruit juices and skim milk.

    Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine

Taking care of your health throughout pregnancy is crucial. During your pregnancy avoid drinking alcohol and limit caffeine. Also, do not take any medication that is prescribed to you by a doctor.  Drinking too much coffee increases your risk of miscarriage. On the other hand, consuming alcohol during pregnancy can lead to physical and mental abnormalities in the unborn child.

    Take prenatal vitamins

Consult your doctor about how much folic acid and calcium you should take and what other prenatal vitamins you should take during your pregnancy. When you take prenatal vitamins you may be certain that your unborn child is getting essential nutrients like folic acid, iron, and calcium.  These vitamins are crucial for the development of bones, vision, and brain.

     Exercise regularly

Regular, light exercise reduces the likelihood of needing a cesarean section, shortens labor, and makes it less painful. Pregnant women who exercise regularly report fewer symptoms of nausea and fatigue. Postpartum women might benefit from exercise as well.  You can do exercises like walking, swimming, and prenatal dance classes. However, you should consult your doctor before beginning an exercise program during pregnancy if you were not physically active before getting pregnant.

    Limit your exposure

If you deal with chemicals or other compounds known to cause birth abnormalities, it is vital to safeguard your infant. Utilize non-toxic home cleaning products all during your pregnancy to reduce your risk of exposure, to reduce your risk of exposure.

    Go to the dentist

Hormonal changes during pregnancy increase your risks of gingivitis. The interaction between higher amounts of progesterone and estrogen and the bacteria in plaque may cause Swollen, painful, or bleeding gums. Your dentist will clean your teeth to prevent bleeding gums. Also, floss and brush your teeth daily to maintain good oral health.

Call Women’s Healthcare of Garden City to schedule a pregnancy consultation.
