It’s no secret that as we age, our skin becomes droopier, and our facial muscles lose volume. These changes may seem irreversible, but there is an easy way to maintain your youthful appearance: facial fillers. These treatments can eliminate lines and wrinkles, create aesthetic balance, restore symmetry, and even volumize areas such as the cheeks and lips. But a question remains: what age should you start to look into fillers?

    Why You Should Not Hesitate

On average, people opt for facial filler treatments between 40 and 54 years old. However, there has recently been a boom in patients under 25 seeking injections. The reason? To preemptively combat any signs of aging. In fact, many fillers have properties that can prevent the formation of future lines, so starting earlier can help preserve a youthful appearance.

Using facial fillers can go a long way in maintaining a natural, beautiful appearance. If you don’t want to wait to get your fix, and also want the best facial filler experience, consider visiting J Spa Med Spa, run by top New York facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Andrew Jacono.

Are Facial Fillers Right for You?

Patients most commonly look to dermal fillers as a quick fix for wrinkles and volume loss. With age, the skin becomes thinner and more delicate, causing it to droop; the amazing thing about fillers is that they not only tighten the skin, but restore the accompanying lost volume.

Many are understandably conflicted about getting more invasive surgical procedures, like a facelift. Because fillers are non-surgical and minimally invasive, they might be the best choice for anyone on the fence. Fillers also have a significantly shorter downtime than traditional surgery, meaning recipients can resume normal activity within minutes of an injection.

But while fillers have many upsides, they are only temporary solutions to more permanent problems, and so to maintain results, patients will need to revisit their doctor every few months.

    What Are Some Options?

There are so many facial fillers out there, so it is important to pick the right one. With technical improvements to needles, bruising is almost a non-existent side-effect, and the recovery process is even quicker. Doctors are also able to use microneedles to help the skin repair itself more quickly.

    Belotero

This filler smooths fine lines and wrinkles to refresh the face. Depending on the kind of Belotero your doctor uses, results typically last 6 to 18 months. Following the procedure, patients may experience minor redness, bruising, and swelling, but these effects only last about a week.

    Juvéderm

Juvéderm fills deep facial wrinkles with hyaluronic acid, a chemical that is naturally produced in the body. Juvéderm uses a combination of fillers, such as Voluma XC, Ultra XC, Volbella XC, Vollure XC, and Ultra Plus XC. Each of these products targets a specific area of the face. Results can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months, and the recovery period is around a week.

    Radiesse

Radiesse is made from the mineral calcium hydroxyapatite. This filler eliminates wrinkles by stimulating the creation of collagen, the skin’s main structural protein. Results can last up to 2 years, and it can take up to 2 weeks to fully recover from the treatment.

    Restylane

Restylane is similar to Juvéderm in that it uses hyaluronic acid to treat the skin. Restylane also offers multiple products for different goals: Defyne, Refyne, Lyft, and Sylk. Results can last up to 18 months, with a recovery time of around a week.

    Sculptra

This filler uses poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to restore facial volume. For most patients, Sculptra lasts up to 2 years, and full recovery may take anywhere from a few days to a week.

    What About BOTOX?

BOTOX is also a great option for maintaining facial volume. However, it is not considered a facial filler. Rather, it uses a neurotoxin, Botulinum Toxin A, which, in small doses, is very safe. BOTOX relaxes the muscles by blocking nerve signals and prevents them from contracting. This not only does away with wrinkles but prevents them from forming in the future.
