Piriformis Syndrome is a condition that can cause a lot of pain in the buttocks and hips. It’s often caused by too much sitting, but other factors can also contribute. It develops when the piriformis muscle tightens over the sciatic nerve, a rare neuromuscular illness. The piriformis is a flat, band-like muscle found in the buttocks, just above the hip joint. This muscle helps keep your hips steady by lifting and rotating your thighs outward, making it a crucial part of any lower body routine. Because of this, you can walk, put more or less weight on each foot, and keep your balance as you go. The hip flexor is employed in almost every hip and leg movement, including sports that require thigh rising and rotation. Knowing the most common causes of Newtown piriformis syndrome allows you to take the necessary action.

If you are suffering from this condition, it is essential to know what might be causing it so you can take steps to address the issue.

    4 Causes of Piriformis Syndrome

    1.      Overuse of the piriformis muscle

You can develop piriformis syndrome when you use your piriformis muscle too often or too intensely. It is a condition that causes pain in the buttocks and down the leg. Worry not since there are a few things you can do to prevent this from happening. For starters, give your muscles a break now and then. If you are a runner, try interspersing sprints into your routine instead of always running long distances. And remember to stretch after you work out!

    2.      Sitting for long periods

You might be wondering what the heck piriformis syndrome is. You can’t blame yourself because it is not a condition many people have heard of. Remember, piriformis syndrome is a condition that results when the piriformis muscle becomes inflamed. One of the leading causes of piriformis syndrome is sitting for long periods. When you are seated, the muscle can become compressed and inflamed. Other causes include trauma, infection, and tumors.

    3.      Injury to the muscle

One possible cause of piriformis syndrome is an injury to the muscle. It can happen from something as simple as a fall or a car accident. If the muscle gets too tight, it can start to pressure the sciatic nerve, leading to pain and other symptoms.

    4.      Sciatica

You have probably heard of sciatica before. It is a condition that can cause pain, tingling, and numbness in the leg, resulting in compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve. Unfortunately, piriformis syndrome is often caused by sciatica. It is the most common cause of sciatica.

Piriformis Syndrome is a condition that can cause a lot of pain in the buttocks and hip area. While the cause of Piriformis Syndrome is often unknown, the above are five potential causes that can lead to this condition. If you are experiencing pain in this area, you must see a doctor and determine the root of the problem. Once you know what is causing your pain, you can work on relieving it. You don’t have to sacrifice your quality of life because of nagging pain when you can do something about it.
