How to Walk Around Las Vegas Like a Pro

Las Vegas is internationally known as Sin City, but that doesn’t mean you have to be bad while you’re in town!  This city has something for anyone, from gambling to live shows, to fun and partying: but there’s a major push for people to try and look like locals.  Many travelers don’t want to look like tourists because they think it makes them look like an easy mark or someone who will get taken advantage of.

Here are the top ways to blend in and look like you belong in Vegas.

    Avoid the Stop-and-Gawk

One of the worst ways you can get yourself caught as a tourist is to stop and stare at every shiny thing you see.  You can still take in the city, enjoy the sights and get to know the area, but stopping and staring at buildings, statues, or attractions is the same as stamping ‘tourist’ across your forehead.  If you want to look like you’d comfortably fit in at any Las Vegas houses for sale, try to keep your eyes forward and walk as you belong there.

Keep Your Money Close to Your Body

Pickpockets are a large issue in Vegas.  In Vegas, many people get pickpocketed by kind seeming locals who get a little too handsy and friendly, only to turn around and steal their cash.  If you keep your money in your pants pockets, store it in a front pocket, and keep your attention on it when you’re in crowds.  If, instead, you carry a purse, take something that has a cross-body strap and allows for you to hold your purse as close to your body as possible.

    Travel Smarter When Necessary

You don’t have to walk everywhere.  The Vegas strip is four miles long, which means if you walk all the way from the Bellagio to the MGM Grand, you’re going to wear yourself out.  Instead, get a ticket for public transit while you’re in the city, and take the bus to and from your locations.  This will allow for you to blend in like a local and can help you avoid breaking your feet on a long unnecessary walk.

Don’t Fall for Shiny Tourist Traps

There’s a reason there are so many tourist traps: people fall for them easily.  Don’t fall for the roadside souvenirs or other fun seeming attractions like this.  These stops will sell you overpriced items that will break down within a couple of weeks of you leaving town.  On top of that, you could also be falling for a credit card scam that will keep your information.Moving to Las Vegas made it easier!

Make Easy Conversation and Don’t be Star-Struck.

Be friendly, and try to keep conversations flowing naturally.  Although it’s easy to get a little star-struck when you see someone famous, a local knows that not every famous person is who they seem to be.  Vegas is one of the top cities for celebrity impersonators, second only to Hollywood, so it’s a good idea not to lose your mind when you think you see someone famous.  After all, locals see the rich and celebrated every day; they know better than to freak out.
