4 Common Dental Issues and What You Can Do About Them

When thinking about your health and well-being, you might immediately have ideas about hitting the gym, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, and perhaps even mindfulness techniques like meditation. While these are all great things that can help you live a healthy, happy life, you mustn’t forget to manage your oral health routine, too. Visiting the dentist can be an uncomfortable experience for a lot of people, but it’s important to go for regular checks to make sure everything is OK, otherwise, these issues could lead to more severe healthcare problems. Below are 4 common dental problems that you might have to face in your lifetime, and what your dentist can do about it.

    1.    Gum Disease

Gingivitis can happen to anybody, especially if you smoke tobacco, consume a lot of sugar, and generally follow a poor oral hygiene routine. Symptoms of gum disease include red, swollen gums that might bleed when you brush them, or even when you don’t. You might notice that your breath has started to smell bad, too. If you’re not careful, gingivitis can develop into a more serious periodontal disease, which could result in tooth loss amongst other health problems. If you are concerned that you are developing gum disease, see your dentist immediately to get medication to treat the issue, as well as finding out how you can prevent this from happening again.

    2.    Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Your third molars that are known as wisdom teeth develop later in your life, and while a lot of people don’t have an issue with them, many others do suffer from impacted wisdom teeth, or there simply isn’t enough room for them to come through. You might only experience mild pain at first, but impacted wisdom teeth can be very painful and lead to repeated infections if they are not treated. In most cases, impacted wisdom teeth need to be extracted by a dental surgeon.

    3.    Cavities

This is an incredibly common issue and is often the result of poor oral hygiene. Cavities form because of the bacteria (plaque) on your teeth that thrive off of sugary and carbohydrate-heavy food and drinks. While the bacteria feed on the remnants of these foods that are still on your teeth, they produce acids that wear down the enamel on your teeth, causing painful cavities. You will require a filling if you have a cavity, or perhaps even need to have the tooth removed if it is a severe problem. This is why you should always clean your teeth twice a day, floss, and avoid consuming too much sugar and starch. You should also get your Fillings done by a pediatric dentist in vista.

    4.    Cracked or Chipped Tooth

Perhaps you were injured in a sporting accident, or tripped and landed face first? These are all things that can crack, chip, or even knock out your teeth which not only looks bad but be uncomfortable, too. If this happens to you, you could get a tooth implant if you need to replace an entire tooth or look at getting veneers to cover up at crack or chip, and prevent it from getting worse.

It’s important to always look after your teeth and gums just as much as the rest of your body, so if you are experiencing any of these common dental issues, see a dentist as soon as possible to resolve the problem and prevent it from getting worse.
